About Us

What we’re here to do

FoxBot Industries exists because too many capable people have been told that science, technology, and math aren’t for them.

We teach STEAM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Art, and Math) & AI through open-ended projects that start with doing – not theory – so learners build intuition before they build vocabulary.

We exist for curious people who are done waiting for technology to work for them and ready to start building with it. We teach coding, electronics, math, data, AI, and maker skills because they’re the building blocks of the systems we all live inside. And everyone deserves to understand how those systems work well enough to fix them, adapt them, and build better ones.

Our goal isn’t just to help you use technology, it’s to help you build the life, the community, and the world you want to live in.

About Jen Fox

Jen Fox is an engineer, educator, and maker who has spent the last decade proving that technology education doesn’t have to be boring, jargon-heavy, or intimidating.

By day, she’s a Principal Technical Program Manager at Microsoft, working at the intersection of AI product development and human-centered design. She’s worked on multimodality Copilot features, authored Microsoft’s company-wide Agent UX Design Principles, led AI evaluation frameworks that moved AI-output quality from intuition to data, and built fully functional frontend tools in React/TypeScript. She’s been at the forefront of the AI boom bringing a human-centered lens.

By night (and weekends, and honestly whenever she can), she runs FoxBot Industries, a project-based STEM education company she founded in 2014 because she was tired of seeing brilliant people, especially women, decide that tech or science wasn’t for them.

Through FoxBot, Jen has:

  • Built 10+ NGSS-aligned curricula for grades K–8, reaching 200K+ students
  • Personally taught 20K+ students from ages 5 to 75 in classrooms, makerspaces, maker camps, libraries, museums, and university courses at UCLA
  • Trained 500+ educators in STEM and maker education through professional development programs
  • Created 1K+ educational videos on YouTube and Instagram with 3M+ cumulative views
  • Partnered with Microsoft, SparkFun, Adafruit, Pacific Science Center, Living Computers Museum, and dozens more
  • Authored Beginning Breadboarding (Apress/Springer Nature, 2023), a project-based introduction to electronics and circuits for makers of all ages and backgrounds

She holds a B.A. in Physics from Occidental College and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UCLA, where she also taught university physics. Her research contributions are published in Astroparticle Physics, the Journal of Instrumentation, and Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research. Yes, she dabbled in dark matter. Then she decided to make things and teach other people how to make things.

Educational Philosophy

Every person is capable of learning STEM subjects. The question is whether they’ve found the right teacher and the right approach.

At FoxBot, we believe:

Learning by doing is the best way. Every concept gets grounded in something real you can build, fix, or immediately use. We don’t teach theory and then hope you’ll apply it, we build something and let the theory follow.

Confusion is not failure. When something is genuinely hard, we say so. And then we slow down and work through it together. An effective teacher doesn’t pretend the hard parts aren’t hard – they break things down, build you up, and stay with you until it clicks.

STEAM, not just STEM. We bring art and design into science, technology, engineering and math. The art part is not decorative. Creative confidence and design thinking are how you go from “I understand this in theory” to “I built something with it.”

From consuming to creating. We don’t just want you to know how to use AI tools, or understand what a circuit does, or follow a coding tutorial. We want you to be someone who can pick up any new technology, figure out how it actually works, and then make something with it that solves a real problem.

Making is how we build better systems. The skills FoxBot teaches aren’t just career skills. They’re the skills of someone who can fix the broken lamp, grow food, automate the tasks you don’t have time for, run a workshop, teach a neighbor, and build a local alternative when the commercial one fails or doesn’t serve. We’re not just teaching you to thrive in the existing world. We’re teaching you to build a better one.

What we teach

FoxBot covers the full stack of building better systems:

— Physical making: circuits, electronics, repair, low-tech hacks, hands-on fabrication
— Digital making: coding, automation, AI as a building tool
— Systems thinking: designing things that work in the real world, connect to local resources, and can be maintained and adapted
— Teaching and sharing: how to bring others along — because the goal was never just individual skill

Our three educational tenents:
